So, I went to see Rush today at 11am. (cheap ass I am) Interesting movie. The theater had the volume up so high that when the racing scenes came on they were almost painful to listen to. All in all, the first half of the movie could have been something from Lifetime Channel. The second half was much different and excellent.
Because I have a knowledge of the rivalry, It made sense to me. The graphics of Lauda's injuries were almost too hard to take. I am sure it was very realistic, though. The difference between Lauda and Hunt was very well portrayed. Well done Ron. The vintage F-1 cars were beautiful to see.
(I read that the owners of the vintage cars told Howard that they would drive them themselves and not let a stunt driver do it. Kudo's to them).
All in all, It may not be a movie for folks that do not understand anything about racing. But may convert some on the other hand.
I would give it an 8.5 of 10.

As someone who only knew there was a rivalry, and that Hunt once bedded 30-some stewardesses in one night, I thought it did a good job of establishing the rivalry. But the SOUNDS and the NOISE and the PORNOGRAPHIC SHOTS of valves and suspension bits...unf.

I saw it Saturday with my Motorsport loving wife. The theater was full and a number of people were talking about how much they liked it when they walked out.
I thought it was pretty good. My expectations were pretty high. Too high probably. One thing I would have cut to make it better for me would be the race announcer narration. Annoyed me each time it was highlighted. I think the tension would have been higher without it and just the graphics saying who won. I understand it is a crutch for the non-race fan, but it bugged me. I did find that the narration led the viewer to really start pulling for Lauda about midway. It was kind of neat how you could root for each at the end.
The tight shots of the cars and drivers were cool. The scene with Fitipaldi was fantastic and such a contrast to modern day McLaren. Good fun.
